Shahid Afridi, Virat Kohli play cricket diplomacy. Bat for each other

India skipper Virat Kohli took a step towards peace and goodwill by donating a signed bat to Shahid Afridi Foundation on Tuesday.

"You're most welcome Shahid Bhai".

While India and Pakistan are fierce rivals on the cricket pitch, not to mention the tension that exists between the two countries off it, the cricketers have been quick to show that between them, there is no animosity.

However, the players from both sides of the border share a cordial relationship with each other.

Virat Kohli, who is in Sri Lanka now leading the Indian team in their ongoing three-match Test series, quickly sent his best wishes to the former Pakistan all-rounder.

Amir recently returned to the Pakistan team after a five-year suspension for spot-fixing, and Kohli's gift was a way of welcoming Amir back to the worldwide cricketing fold. The money will be donated to "Shahid Afridi Foundation".

Kohli's bat will be presented for auction in a charity dinner in Newcastle to collect funds to build a hospital in Tharparkar.

It is heartwarming to see the rapport shared by the Indian and Pakistan players off the field, especially at a time when political tension between the two nations is a serious issue of concern. Even more awesome is the support that he is receiving from across the border and long may it continue.
