Duffy wins fourth in a row in Edmonton

01 Août 2017

While Duffy cruised through the run to break the tape for her fourth consecutive WTS title in 2017, Knibb surprised just about everyone (possibly including herself) to easily take the silver, her first WTS podium in just her third WTS race.

So here's what's really insane about Flora Duffy's four straight wins on the WTS circuit in 2017.

Duffy broke away on the bike with 19-year-old American Taylor Knibb, and pushed away from the teenager on the bell lap.

“It was pretty spot on, so thank you, Edmonton”, Duffy told the WTS wesbite after her victory. “Taylor is riding super strong at the moment, I have been in a breakaway with her before, in Montreal past year, We worked together really well, but she was so strong I thought she might be running really strong too, so I attacked her on the last hill to get a little buffer”. A year ago, in Montreal, Knibb couldn't hang on to second as Ashleigh Gentle ran her down for silver, but Knibb's running has improved since last year. So I attacked her on the last hill to get a little buffer.”.

Vendredi, Laurent Berger, secrétaire général de la CFDT, avait déclaré sur Europe: " Je trouve toujours un peu choquant les sommes qui sont en jeu ".

“I just tried to follow Flora and it worked all right, ” Knibb said. To be on the podium on a race like this, on a WTS race, is simply awesome.”.

"Taylor is a super-strong rider and the course suited both of us", Duffy said. When Flora is riding you need to be with her any second or you will loose her. And the bike had a hill, but the run had my own hill too, with the battle with Summer Cook. I just kept telling myself be strong, be strong and I made it.”.

With her fourth straight 800-poiint finish, Duffy passed last weeks points leader Katie Zaferes, who finished 3rd, by 8 points – 3,200 to 3,192. Her six career WTS wins puts her alone in second place behind Gwen Jorgensens 17 WTS wins and pulls her out of a tie with Andrea Hewitt, Paula Findlay and Emma Moffatt at five WTS victories.
