Titans sign Casey to four-year extension

29 Juillet 2017

The Tennessee Titans and defensive tackle Jurrell Casey have agreed on a four-year contract extension, that will pay him $60.4 million, with $40 million guaranteed, the team announced on Friday. "But Jurrell is a unique player in that he was drafted here, has already done an extension with the team, is a standout in our community, and has earned multiple Pro Bowl invitations".

The Titans didn't need to get a contract extension done with Jurrell Casey this offseason, but they chose to do one anyway in order to get their best defensive player locked up for the foreseeable future. He was a third-round pick by the Titans out of USC in 2011.

His new deal certainly rewards him for his play with him set to pull in over $15 million a year.

This past season Casey ranked tenth among 125 interior defensive linemen according to Pro Football Focus. But while he still had two more years on that deal, the Titans made a decision to lock him up for even longer and that's a smart move. Casey was voted the 2016 Tennessee Titans Walter Payton Man of the Year, which recognizes players for excellence on and off the field.

The scary thing for opposing offenses is that Casey only expects to be better this year.

While the two are best friends, they both have a lot going on separately. According to Madison , the pair are really just besties.

Casey, who has two years remaining on his current contract, recorded 51 tackles and five sacks during the 2016 season.

Casey and the Titans will begin practice at training camp on Saturday.

Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official website passed along comments from general manager Jon Robinson about why the front office chose to lock Casey up with a new deal now. "A lot of times I looked at the film (this offseason) and you see a lot of plays you can make".

Titans executive vice president/general manager Jon Robinson acknowledged the rarity that comes with this deal, but a rare deal makes sense for a rare player.
