Suspect in custody after days-long western NC manhunt, sheriff says

Authorities are concerned that a report of a missing man may be related to the hunt for an armed suspect believed to be in a national forest in North Carolina.

Considered armed and unsafe, and with a history of violent and criminal behavior, Stroupe has been the object of a massive manhunt that started last Saturday in the Pisgah National Forest and later zeroed in on the Mills River area.

No details have been released about how Stroupe was able to make it to McDowell County, or where he was going.

Transylvania authorities said Wednesday they were turning the operation over to Henderson authorities after ground teams had tracked Stroupe toward the North Mills River Recreation Area there.

Bryson was last seen wearing a dark-colored plaid shirt, brown cargo shorts and sneakers and driving a silver Honda Ridgeline with a license tag reading AAR-7345. Police declined to say how close the distance was between Bryson and the pickup location, only saying it was "not far".

Fears of NHS staff shortages in Scotland grow
Spending on agency staff has also more than doubled to £171.4 million in the past five years to deal with the impact of shortages. Ms Gardner warned in her report that NHS Scotland is in danger of not having enough health workers to meet demand.

Bryson, 68, was last seen leaving his home at 8:35 a.m. Wednesday.

"The Transylvania County Sheriff's Office can confirm that the suspect, Phillip Michael Stroupe II, has been apprehended and is in custody at this time".

Anyone with information of his whereabouts is asked to call the Transylvania County Sheriff's Office at 828-884-3168.

Authorities have since said that Stroupe likely wasn't involved in the break-in, but he took off and is accused of stealing a bike at gunpoint. He was carrying a black.38 Special revolver, Queen said. K9 units and foot patrols lost track of the man sometime Wednesday evening.

Stroupe is 38-years-old, approximately 5'8"-5'10" tall, with a small build; he has a shaved head and a large, distinct tattoo on his neck just under his chin as well as tattoos on his arms and chest.
