Director Christopher Nolan is Back on Top at the Box Office

Studios on Sunday say the Christopher Nolan World War II epic earned an estimated $50.5 million to top the charts, with $11.7 million of that coming from IMAX screens.

Musing about the historic battle, Sturdy's hope seemed to be that people might understand just how awful war is.

"Tonight I cried because it's never the end".

If you've seen Dunkirk, it is quite simply not quite like any war movie you've seen before. "It didn't need any of the dialogue because it told the story visually and it was so real".

A Deadly Salmonella Outbreak in 12 States Has Been Linked to Papayas
An estimated 1.2 million cases of salmonella infection occur in the USA annually, with 450 deaths, according to the CDC. More than 40% of people who reported the illness said they recently ate papayas.

Sturdy was a signalman with the Royal Navy, helping soldiers reach boats ready to evacuate them from the beach.

The veteran, who lives in Canada now, went to watch the premiere of "Dunkirk" at Calgary's Westhills Cinemas. He hopes that the movie will send a message to a new audience of a sad nature of the war and our inability to avoid it.

"I had the privilege to see that film tonight", he said. It won't happen. We the human species are so intelligent, and we do such astonishing things. "We can fly to the moon but we still do stupid things", Sturdy said. STX Entertainment thought it had a title that summer movie audiences would flock to as it had "The Fifth Element" director making a movie based on the comic he grew up on back in France, but that didn't happen.

As for the movie itself, Sturdy, like many critics, was a fan.
