Holden Commodore VXR Promises To Be A Worthy Successor To The SS

20 Juillet 2017

The "SS" badge of the current Australian-built high-performance Commodore will disappear with the V8 engine when the all-new European-made model, a version of the latest Opel Insignia, is launched in early-2018. All in all, the new architecture makes the Commodore lighter, and it's also more aerodynamic and shares with the Regal GS the new nine-speed automatic transmission and AWD system. Holden adds the local fixture took the right hand drive model through a local development program with more than 100,000 kilometers (62,137 miles) worth of Australian road testing. "Importantly we also have Brembo front brakes and Continuous Damping Control (CDC)".

Inside, changes are less pronounced with the addition of a range of safety and driver assistance technologies. The vehicle has also been equipped with revised side skirts, a unique rear spoiler, and 20-inch alloy wheels.

The spicy sedan stands out externally from its next-generation (NG) Commodore siblings with sports-inspired front and rear fascias, as well as adaptive LED Matrix headlights, VXR-branded sill plates and a rear lip spoiler mounted on the bootlid.

Looking virtually identical to its worldwide counterparts, the Commodore VXR has an aggressive front fascia with larger air intakes and adaptive LED Matrix headlights.

Traction is provided by an adaptive "Twinster" all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.

"We've been involved in the development of this vehicle from the beginning and I have personally spent significant time behind the wheel overseas and at Holden's Lang Lang proving ground", he said.

No more SS for Commodore beyond 2017; new performance flagship will be called VXR. The VXR is still undergoing final proving in Europe, including development at the Nurburgring circuit in Germany.
