Venus Williams is facing off with Garbine Muguruza of Spain in the Wimbledon Final on Saturday. She stopped Konta, who was aiming to become the first British woman in the final since Virginia Wade in 1977, with relative ease.

It was an anticlimactic conclusion for Williams, who was the oldest Wimbledon finalist since 1994.

Eight years after her last Wimbledon final and more than two decades since Martina Navratilova became the last 37-year-old to reach the same stage, Williams produced the sort of attacking performance that led her to five titles in her heyday.

Serena will still hold more Grand Slams, overall as well as at Wimbledon. "Poor young V", she said. But she kept on going, and lately has returned to winning. Williams of course skipped the grass warm-up events but has a natural ease on the surface and her record here needs no explanation.

What will help Venus is the fact that she can just pick up the phone, call her sister and ask her how to beat Muguruza. The Spaniard mirror the same result in her round of 64 match against Belgian Yanina Wickmayer (6-2, 6-4) and set her focus on more challenging prospects.

She posted the shot on Instagram and wrote: "Tough day at the office today for me".

"I would sum up my whole Wimbledon experience as memorable".

However, Muguruza has produced some of the best tennis of her career in SW19 this fortnight, knocking out world No1 Angelique Kerber and dismantling No7 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova easily in the quarter-finals.

So she has reached three of the last nine Grand Slam finals, and on a women's tour big on depth and short on margins among rankings, that's a virtual dynasty (with Serena Williams an actual dynasty).

Williams arrived in England a few weeks after being involved in a two-car accident in Florida; not long afterward, a passenger in the other vehicle died. While she conducted a tearful news conference, coach Sam Sumyk described the Paris fans as "pathetic". Maybe it's just her tournament to end the drought.

Williams erased the first break point with a backhand victor down the line, and the second with a 106 miles per hour (171 kph) second serve that went right at Konta's body. That opened a run in which Williams won 12 of 13 points.

"I know tomorrow I'm looking forward a lot to go on the court".

"I thought it was close", said Federer (right).

Berdych applied more pressure in the second set but could not break, and three clean winners on the forehand from Federer put him in control of the second tie-break. I try to take the same courage on the court that she would have. I think it's a huge difference. She is the fifth woman in the past 10 years to win a Grand Slam semifinal or final when losing two or less games.

Muguruza, the 14th seed at Wimbledon, made it to the finals in 2015, but couldn't get the win.

The script that this year's Wimbledon is Federer's last hurrah is a good one - but surely, given his continued dominance, this can not be it?

"Not my best day", Rybarikova said. Serena is home, scheduled to give birth to her first child before the summer is over. Here is everything you need to know entering the third Grand Slam ladies' singles final of the year.
