Cat killer sentenced to 16 years in jail

15 Juillet 2017

A 26-year-old man who prosecutors believe may have tortured and killed up to 16 cats after abducting them from a San Jose neighborhood was sentenced Friday to 16 years in jail, officials with the Santa Clara District Attorney's Office said.

Farmer pleaded guilty in October to 20 counts of felony animal cruelty, one count of attempted felony animal cruelty, one count of simple battery and one count of using or being under the influence of a controlled substance, methamphetamine.

The freakish saga unfolded in September 2015 when cats began mysteriously disappearing from the Cambrian Park neighborhood.

"Robert Farmer is a monster who has no mercy and who victimized the most innocent member of our family", said Miriam Petrova, whose 17-year-old cat "Gogo" was among those killed, as quoted by the San Jose Mercury.

Farmer was arrested on October 8, 2015 while he was sleeping in his auto.

Farmer was caught with a hunting knife and fur-covered gloves inside his fluff-and-blood-spattered motor.

Tests carried out by vets found signs of sexual abuse on a ginger tabby found in Farmer's vehicle when he was arrested, but the abuse was denied by defence lawyer Wesley Schroeder.

The gang sexually harassed the actress in a moving van for about 45 minutes before she was freed near Palarivattom. The Police said that they need another day with Dileep as the phone containing visuals has not been yet traced.

A cat that escaped from his clutches was later treated by a vet for a "bite that was not an animal bite, as well as the bleeding head injury", local resident David Stine said.

DNA of Farmer's was found under the tabby's claws as well as dilated genitals - shocking evidence the puss had been sexually violated.

The conflicting accounts triggered a debate about whether Farmer should be required to register as a sex offender when someday released from prison.

"He likes to hurt living things", Chatman said. Ellis also argued Friday that Farmer presented a "phenomenal risk" of re-offending.

Farmer was also ordered to stay away from that community and will not be able to own an animal.

"The judge did everything she could possibly do", said Olena Klingman. The judge declined to require Farmer to register as a sex offender upon release, however, stating that Ellis' arguments "did not meet that burden" for such an order. Many in the audience cried as owners read victim-impact statements. Farmer listened with his back turned to the crowd the entire time.

"It's still painful to come home knowing GoGo isn't waiting for us", she added.
