"Apes" overthrowing "Spider-Man" at Box Office

15 Juillet 2017

"War for the Planet of the Apes", 20th Century Fox's latest foray into the story of a world taken over by nonhuman primates, charged into theaters on Friday, generating an estimated $22.1 million in domestic box office receipts. But "Apes" will probably have a smaller haul than the previous chapter in the series, "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes", from 2014, which pulled in $27.6 million on its first Friday and $72.6 million on its opening weekend. War for the Planet of the Apes cost approximately $150 million to make and will most likely make that money back. It received an A- CinemaScore from audiences. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet. That would put the two-week total at around $210 million domestically.

Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: Homecoming stars Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Zendaya Coleman, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr.
