Police called to Wisconsin mall area; man reportedly shot

The Waukesha County Sheriff says an officer-involved shooting in Johnson Creek stemmed from a carjacking in Waukesha County Tuesday afternoon. Severson says the carjacking victim was uninjured.

The suspect and officers were not identified.

Police in Wisconsin responded to a disturbance near an outlet mall in suburban Milwaukee, and a witness said officers shot a man armed with a gun after he tried to enter a restaurant. At one point authorities placed stop sticks on the highway and deflated the vehicle's tires, but the man kept driving and waved his handgun out the window toward officers, Severson said.

Helicopter video from the scene shows police working around a red auto in the Arby's lot, and a large white sheet-like object on the sidewalk near one of the restaurant's doors.

A Waukesha County sheriff's deputy and a member of the Delafield Police Department were involved in a shooting near Johnson Creek Premium Outlets, according to the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department. "I don't know if it was at anybody or anything but it was up in the air when he fired it, and then right after that the police exchanged fire as well with two or three shots", said the witness.

Severson said he thinks the officers' response was justified, but an investigation is ongoing.
