Anna Schroeder Morrison teen: Why I shot my mother to death

12 Juillet 2017

A Morrison, Illinois, teenager has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of her mother at the home they shared.

A 15-year-old relative of a Morrison woman whose body was found in a burning home Saturday shot her in the head the day before, then she and a friend set the house on fire to hide the crime, investigators said Tuesday.

A report from the New York Post went into detail about the horrific crime, which, according to police reports, started when Anna Schroeder waited for her mom Peggy to return home from work on Thursday. They say Anna then enlisted the help of a friend to come over and help clean the crime scene and move the body. On Saturday, they moved the body to a bedroom and set fire to the sheets, Molina testified.

Whiteside County State's Attorney Terry Costello could not be reached for immediate comment.

Police Chief Brian Melton has declined to say whether the girls, who were taken into custody around 2 a.m. Sunday, knew Schroeder. Rachel Helm has not been formally charged in her alleged role in helping hide the murder.

Anna's older sister, 18-year-old Kaylene Schroeder, told KWQC that she's been touched by tributes to her late mother, and that she's thankful for the support her community has given her during this trying time.

To date authorities said the motive behind the alleged murder remains unclear. She is due to appear in court on August 8.

'It warms my heart to see all the love and handsome words from all of (Peggy's) friends.

"I would've said, "Thank you for adopting us, for giving us a second chance at life, for loving us no matter what we put her through.' Because we put her through a lot, but she was always there for us and she just wanted us to succeed in life and i'm going to miss her a lot".

Reiterated Peggy's eldest daughter, Kaylene, 'She didn't deserve this. She's kind of irrelevant to me right now.

The eldest daughter said despite her sister and mom's "rocky relationship", she never thought her sister would do something like this, 'She's never been known to be violent or just burst into moods like this.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Morrison chapel of the Bosma-Renkes funeral home for the adopted sister's mother... "I didn't have a lot of friends and I could always count on her and now she's just gone".
