US bombers drill near South Korea DMZ in show of force

Some experts say that the trajectory of Tuesday's launch could put Alaska and possibly the Pacific Northwest within North Korea's strike range, as Pyongyang claims that the newly developed missile can carry a large nuclear warhead and is capable of striking the USA mainland.

The B-1B bombers conducted the live-fire exercise at a range in South Korea's eastern Gangwon province, dropping weapons in a simulated attack on a missile launcher, the South Korean air force said in a statement.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un told officials to "frequently send big and small "gift packages" to the Yankees", CNN reported.

THAAD interceptors are positioned in Guam which are meant to help guard against a missile attacks, such as one from North Korea.

This is the second "show of force" by the United States military since the July 4 North Korea test of an intercontinental ballistic missile, a first for the rogue, communist regime.

The Pilsung Range is located in the center of South Korea and is jointly operated by the USA and South Korean air forces, CNN reported.

Both Russia and China have called for North Korea to end its push to be a nuclear power, according to BBC.

"U.S. bombers and Republic of Korea fighters are just two of many lethal military options at our disposal", said Lt. Gen. Thomas Bergeson, U.S. Forces Korea deputy commander.

"Together, we are facing the threat of the reckless and brutal regime in North Korea", Trump said at the White House. "So much for China working with us - but we had to give it a try!"
