Kvitova won Wimbledon in 2011 and again in 2014 and she is clearly buzzing with anticipation for the return to the All England Club which she has called her "home". She mowed down the field to advance to the Birmingham final without the loss of a set, including a strong win over one of the best players of the season, Kristina Mladenovic, in the quarterfinals.
There was some consolation for Barty in the doubles. Kvitova said afterwards that she's tried to stay focused on the good throughout her recovery, and that she's feeling good. This time, she put herself out of trouble with an ace and a good first serve and gained a chance to hold with a backhand victor.
It is improbable not because of any lack of confidence in the Czech's game. Eventually, another ace and a backhand victor let Kvitova hold and stay on track in the set.
Kvitova had to battle back from a set down against Barty, who only returned to tennis past year following a stint playing professional cricket in the Big Bash.
The first faltering from the Australian happened as she was serving for the set. 'From the first hit on the grass I felt great. An error from the Czech wasted it, but she gained another one with a return victor.
Safarova served for the set at 5-2 and lost serve before breaking back immediately to square the match.
But through two tournaments, Kvitova is now 6-1.

Kvitova, 16th in the world, is looking forward to facing the 21-year-old Barty, ranked No. 77 and advancing to the biggest final of her career.
The former British number one has dropped to 126th in the rankings after a hard season in which she has won just six WTA Tour matches. I am sorry for her and hope she soon gets a bit better. Kvitova captured 14 of the first 15 points, and the first five games. An aggressive service game, that forced Barty to a full-court defense a couple of times, delivered the Czech to a neat 3-0 lead. Serving her 13th ace, Kvitova served out the title at love to complete the comeback 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. win.
It lasted 16 minutes and an incredible 24 points before Gavrilova eventually held serve. She came up with two fine returns to break serve, began to play more freely and held for 3-0 and 4-1.
After losing her service game at the start of the second set, Safarova shook hands and departed. "Of course it would be nice to win 6-2, 6-2, but there are not any easy matches like that in Wimbledon".
And, to cap off an incredible tournament for Barty, she will partner Casey Dellacqua in the doubles final against Hao-ching and Chan Shuai Zhang. The Czech hit an overhead well long and then, facing break point, got stretched out wide by Barty forcing her to hit her shot long. One more error gifted by the Czech leveled the score to 2-2.
She will make a decision on how to proceed next after seeing the results of a scan.
This time she saved three in by far the best match of the tournament so far.
