Philando Castile was fatally shot by the officer July 6 in a St. Paul suburb seconds after he told the officer he was armed.
The shooting gained national attention after Castile's girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, live-streamed the gruesome aftermath on Facebook.
A day after Jeronimo Yanez was acquitted in the shooting death of Philando Castile, Sen.
After the verdict, Castile's family reacted with anger outside the courthouse in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
"As soon as you say, 'I'm a concealed carry holder". Valerie Castile said her son was murdered. But nevertheless the system continues to fail black people. We're going back down to 1969.
"We've got to think bigger than that", she said. "This time there should have been, in our opinion, a very, very different outcome".
The incident drew worldwide condemnation when Castile's girlfriend live-streamed the aftermath on Facebook. In it, Castile can be seen bleeding to death in the driver's seat.
Circumstances of the shooting led to weeks of protests past year in St. Paul and the adjoining city of Minneapolis, and fueled a national debate about the appropriate use of force by police against racial minorities.

The protesters, who were booked at the Ramsey County Jail, face charges for being a pedestrian on the highway and other charges, Nielson said.
The verdict sparked outrage among many in the St. Paul area. Yet in most cases, the officers and police departments are not held accountable.
The video was a crucial piece of evidence during the trial, along with dashcam video from the police vehicle.
It wasn't about the conviction of a single police officer, she said. Sherrilyn Ifill, who heads the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, said the acquittal "highlights how hard it is to prosecute an officer for killing a person".
"What do we mean when we say we want justice?"
A rally "to demand justice (and) accountability" was planned for Friday night at the state capitol by several groups including the local chapter of Black Lives Matter.
Police in Minnesota cleared hundreds of demonstrators who were protesting the Friday's acquittal of a police officer in the fatal shooting of motorist Philando Castile, KTSP reported. According to Stephanie Ewen, one of the protestors, the parade marchers stopped and were listening to the protestors. While we cannot know the jury's thinking in Mr. Yanez's trial, we can know the context in which his trial took place, and should not be surprised by its outcome.
