STARTING from 10th on the grid, then dropping to 17th after an early pit stop, did not auger well for Daniel Ricciardo but after 51 laps of Baku's fast street circuit, he won a chaotic and hugely entertaining Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
He finished four seconds ahead of Bottas, who was just 1/100sec ahead of Stroll, with Vettel fourth, followed by Hamilton, Ocon, Magnussen in the Haas, Sainz (Toro Rosso), Fernando Alonso ninth for McLaren and Pascal Wehrlein 10th in the Sauber.
But the incident didn't stop there. Battle lines The battle lines were drawn the moment Vettel went into the back of Hamilton's Mercedes during the second of three safety auto periods, the German shaking his fists and pulling alongside to bang wheels in a gesture that looked a lot like "road rage".
This wasn't the first time for the British driver to show his rude and unsportsmanlike behavior and this is exactly why he is one of the champions who are the least favorite among the fans.
"For him to pretty much get away with driving into another driver is a disgrace", Hamilton said. If he wants to prove that he is a man we should do it out of the vehicle, face-to-face. It's risky driving and to get a 10-second penalty for that.
"I'll do that just with him and clear it and move on. If I was Lewis, I would speak to Sebastian and ask him what is wrong".
"I can't imagine he did it on objective in shunting into him, so I would like to speak to him personally and hear from him personally, to hear what he says about the incident rather than making a judgment without properly hearing or reading a statement". "He brake-checked me as well". After the start, Valtteri Bottas pushed Kimi Raikkonen and damaged his vehicle. It was very almost second place, too, but Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas surged past him in his faster Mercedes with the finish line just in sight.
It is unlikely. Hamilton's Mercedes team could have protested the result, but chose not to.
It seems that F1 organization has double standards. I took it to the end and just lost out to Valtteri - that may have been one of the closest ends to a race ever!
These old men are back! Borg tips Federer, Nadal for Wimbledon
Because I need to feel strong and have low, powerful legs to play well in Wimbledon . "That's the reality", said Nadal. Going by that trend, Nadal should enter the Wimbledon as a significant favourite.
"As a team we can only look at that as a positive for us", Hamilton said.
But let's get back to some nicer subject.
"It was a insane race", Ricciardo said.
"Did I think that I would win the race today?"
"I can't really believe it - it was a insane race", he said. "I think he disgraced himself today to be honest".
But Bottas had to pit on the second lap for a new front wing, dropping to last, while Raikkonen complained of damage to the rear of his auto.
It was his fifth win in career.
It took a while for us all to realise what had happened though, because in the meantime both Force India drivers collided.
With the earlier incident still fresh in their minds, Hamilton got the drop on Vettel and retained the lead from the German, while Ricciardo made up three positions in one corner as he roared past both Williams drivers and Renault's Nico Hulkenberg.
