RCMP Investigating Death of Edmonton woman near Sylvan Lake

An Edmonton woman is dead after a two-vehicle collision near Sylvan Lake Friday evening.

A passenger in the pickup truck was transported by ambulance to hospital in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.

Mounties say it was around 10:50 a.m. that a westbound pickup truck struck the 59-year-old man near 58th street in Edson, Alta.

The event plays out across four days, with the top finishers advancing to the World Championships in London later this summer. Competition will continue at the USATF Championships and Junior Championships through Sunday.

The driver of the vehicle, a 57-year-old woman from Edmonton, succumbed to her injuries.

Sylvan Lake is around 25 kilometres west of Red Deer. Her name is not being released. Traffic was diverted for about 3 hours but has returned back to normal.

An RCMP Collision Reconstructionist was on scene to assist with the investigation, which is ongoing.
