Rep. Steve Scalise upgraded to fair condition, hospital announces

Scalise was shot in the hip when a gunman opened fire on Republican lawmakers practicing for a charity baseball game.

It's still unclear if the names on the list - which includes Republican Reps. The person did not disclose the names, but said those listed had been briefed.

House Speaker Paul Ryan said he visited Scalise in the hospital Friday and saw him breathing on his own, talking and sending text messages. According to Politico, doctors upgraded the Republican representative's condition from "serious" to "fair" on Wednesday, saying he "continues to make good progress".

Sava declined to put a timeline on when that would happen or when Scalise, 51, would be able to leave the hospital. "The round fragmented, and caused significant damage to bones, internal organs and blood vessels".

The update on Scalise's condition comes just hours after the FBI gave an update on the investigation into the shooting that left six people injured.

James Hodgkinson of Belleville, Ill., has been identified by law enforcement as the shooter.

"So he's doing - he's doing a lot better", said Ryan. "I think that his risk of death right now is substantially lower than when he came in. he was as critical as you can be when he came in".

In family photos accompanying Sunday's Twitter post, Scalise is seen smiling as he enjoys everyday moments with his wife, son and daughter. Capitol Police Officers Crystal Griner and David Bailey as well as Tyson's Food lobbyist Matt Mika and congressional staffer Zack Barth were also wounded in the attack.
