Celtics trade No. 1 overall NBA Draft pick to 76ers

24 Juin 2017

The Boston Celtics have traded the No. 1 pick in this week's National Basketball Association draft to the Philadelphia 76ers.

With this new deal in mind, the Sixers will probably take Markelle Fultz, the dynamic guard out of Washington University.

After giving up the third pick and a future first rounder to secure the top overall selection in this year's draft, the Sixers believe that it was a cheap price to pay for what they got in return. It will either be the Los Angeles Lakers' first-round pick next year, provided that pick falls between No. 2 and No. 5. The announcement of the particulars will likely happen Monday.

This is a big night for Celtics fans, even if Boston no longer possesses the first overall pick courtesy of Danny Ainge's blockbuster with the Philadelphia 76ers.

If Boston holds onto the pick, it would have seven first-rounders in the next three years. The Sixers used the No. 1 pick previous year on Ben Simmons, who missed the entire season because of a foot injury.

For the second consecutive year, the Philadelphia 76ers will have the first overall pick in the National Basketball Association draft. "Thursday night will see us take another significant step toward building a successful and sustainable basketball program".

"I think they're both terrific players", Ainge said. "And how is he gonna say something when he didn't watch me play?"

Xilinx INC (XLNX) Shareholder Tahithromos LLC Trimmed Its Stake
Raymond James Financial, Inc. reiterated a "mkt perform" rating on shares of Xilinx in a research note on Friday, June 16th. The Texas-based Employees Retirement Of Texas has invested 0.02% in Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX) or 36,063 shares.

Fultz, who recently turned 19, averaged 23.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.9 assists as a freshman on a Washington team that went 9-22. Incredibly talented, his skillset aligned with those already on the Boston Celtics roster.

Together with Simmons, Jahlil Okafor and 2017 NBA Rookie of the Year finalists Joel Embiid and Dario Saric, the 76ers will have a young core of talent that could provide a formidable base upon which to rebuild the team. The Celtics GM later added, "We think there's a really good chance the player we'll take at 3 is the same player we would have taken at 1". Fultz and Simmons could play the next 10-to-15 years and potentially lead this franchise back from the abyss of 75 wins over the last four seasons.

One NBA exec told the Herald that Ainge would love to find a way to get North Carolina State point guard Dennis Smith Jr., who isn't rated as high as the third overall pick.

Team wise, your pick should be Jackson, who can fill the need of an athletic wingman who can guard multiple positions, attack the rim with objective and score in traffic.

The Sixers are used to being in this position, but as a team on the rise, possibly drafting Fultz with the first pick would be a better fit for the Sixers then it would be for the Celtics.

We won't officially know where any players are going until the draft kicks off on June 22nd, but at this moment the first pick appears to be all but a done deal.
