Jeremy Corbyn has said each of the Grenfell Tower fire deaths "could and should have been avoided", as it emerged combustible cladding has been found on at least 11 other tower blocks. Exterior cladding added during a refurbishment may have played a part, residents have said.The disaster in the London borough of Kensington and Chelsea heaped pressure on Prime Minister Theresa May, already fighting for her political survival after her party lost its parliamentary majority is this month's snap election.
It has acted as a focal point for anger at local authority funding cuts, drew accusations of criminal negligence and could test the government's ability to re-home people within the country's stretched housing stock. 'The tests, which are being conducted by the Building Research Establishment (BRE), can be done within hours allowing us to test more than 100 samples a day, with capacity expandable if needed. These estimates do not include buildings in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
"We are looking at every health and safety and fire safety offences and we are reviewing every company at the moment involved in the building and refurbishing of Grenfell Tower".
According to the Guardian, a fire-retardant cladding was initially proposed by architects for use on Grenfell Tower in 2012, but the council overseeing the project eventually opted for the cheaper, more flammable option.
Theresa May announced the cladding used in the tower was "combustible" and ordered an urgent review of materials used in other United Kingdom tower blocks.

The Downing Street spokeswoman said: "So far, three samples have been found to be combustible".
Police said both the insulation and tiles used in cladding at the tower block failed all post-fire safety checks.
"I've been informed a number of those tests have come back as combustible", Mrs May revealed in a statement about the Grenfell Tower fire in Kensington.
'To ensure that local authorities and housing associations know how to respond where tests do show action is needed my department has written to every one of them to ensure they know what immediate steps they should take if the testing shows cladding material is unlikely to be compliant with current Building Regulations, ' he explained. "In light of this, we will be informing the contractor that we will be taking urgent legal advice". It said the fire officials "were satisfied that Rivers Apartments is considered a low fire risk building".
Amid questions over fire safety provisions at Grenfell Tower, the union representing firefighters who tackled the blaze has told Sky News it has "major concerns" over building regulations in England.
