Golfer Koepka wins his first major at US Open

21 Juin 2017

The 27-year-old struggled to believe his triumph, saying: "What I've done this week is unbelievable".

Koepka shot a 67 on his winning round. When he pushed a 30-foot birdie try on No. 12 a full 12 feet past the hole, he set himself up for bogey. He said he would rather be out on the course fighting for the title.

The margin of victory was four strokes and the winning total was 16 under, equaling the lowest score in relation to par in U.S. Open history.

Tommy Fleetwood finished fourth, five shots back and one ahead of Rickie Fowler, Bill Haas and Xander Schauffele.

For more than a century there were two distinct styles of play and set of skills that would help at each of golf's two biggest national Opens. Prior to Sunday, his only PGA Tour victory was in the 2015 at Phoenix.

If you live in Jupiter, Fla., and you were taking one of those childhood tests to figure out which item doesn't belong, Koepka would have been that odd item out when talking about the community's pro golfer population.

In becoming the seventh consecutive first-time victor of a major championship, Koepka showed that behind the superstars who dominate the headlines are dozens of players who on any given week are capable of beating anyone. Now he truly belongs.

Koepka's name will be etched on the trophy alongside that of his good friend Johnson, who missed the cut at Erin Hills but spoke to Koepka after Saturday's third round.

He remembers taking a phone call and receiving the best advice he's ever got: "Stick it out". "It was like two minutes, it wasn't much".

"Dustin called me and told me just stay patient", said Koepka. Just keep doing what you're doing, you're going to win the thing.

Taking a Fresh Look at Investors Bancorp, Inc. (ISBC)
Bancorp from a "buy" rating to a "hold" rating and set a $53.00 price target for the company.in a report on Thursday, April 20th. On Friday, June 2 Walsh Patricia J bought $98,120 worth of Voya Financial Inc (NYSE:VOYA) or 2,777 shares.

Portrush man Elliott, a former Ireland Boys and Youths worldwide, caddied for Ben Curtis when the American won the Texas Open in 2012. He was tied with Harman. This put him in second behind Brian Harman. He made the putt.

At No. 15, the risky short par 4, he attacked a back-right pin, and netted another birdie. He had a two-shot lead over Matsuyama, who was in the clubhouse.

The 356 yard par-four 15th was the not only the toughest hole of Sunday's final round but proved key swing in the trophy chase. He shot a 74 to finish at 7 over at Erin Hills, well off the lead. He parred them both.

Former European Tour executive director Ken Schofield said short of seeing a player from Europe win, the continent's golf fans will be "delighted" with American Brooks Koepka's triumph in the U.S. Open. "The ball-striking was pretty solid".

"I feel like I really grew up going over there", he says. "I don't know if I have 14 under in my bag to play".

They would never admit as much, but one wonders whether the good members of the United States Golf Association might have secretly wished for Johnson, and not the impressively unflappable Koepka, to be on the end of the pep talk on Saturday evening. He bogeyed the hole.

"It bites a little bit right now, " Harman said.

Unusually, the finale will not feature any of the world's top three players. Scheffler finished ahead of Texas A&M's Cameron Champ, who entered Sunday's final round with a two-shot lead over Scheffler, shot a 4-over 76 to finish at 288.

It added another less-than-fantastic finish for Fowler at the majors. Wish him well and congratulate him. "We started out this year and I thought I needed to win multiple times and a major", he explained.

Koepka won't be anonymous.
