Newt Gingrich, on book tour, declares special counsel the 'tip o

18 Juin 2017

In a speech to the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. yesterday, the former House speaker who voted to impeach President Clinton for obstruction of justice, said that Trump can't be guilty of obstructing justice in the widening Russian Federation probe - because he's the president. Although it is not yet clear why Newt Gingrich should alter his opinion of the special counsel so quickly, it is known that the Washington Post reported, just prior to Gingrich's tweets, that Robert Mueller was investigating President Trump and the possibility of obstruction of justice charges being filed against him in regard to the president's alleged interference in the Russian tampering investigation.

"The President of the United States is the chief executive officer of the United States. If he wants to fire the Federal Bureau of Investigation director, all he has to do is fire him".

His comments sparked pushback on Twitter, with many noting that Gingrich had voted to impeach former President Bill Clinton, including an article that charged him with obstruction of justice. On Friday he called the investigation into Trump a "witch hunt".

Now, with a Republican in power, Gingrich has changed his tune.

"The only thing that really has changed is the president is attacking Bob Mueller and therefore Newt Gingrich is attacking Bob Mueller", said Schiff, a member of a House committee investigating Russian meddling in the election.

In an excerpt published by ABC News, Gingrich claims Trump asked him in 2015 what "the bottom line" would be if he were to run for president. So far the last six months everybody on the left is walking around chanting 'watch for the Russian connection. "This is an Indian hunting party", the former Speaker of House and failed presidential candidate said. "It's about the witchcraft trials in the late 17 Century in Salem, and actually that's the mentality of the left right now".

"The European part, he accomplished what he intended", Gingrich said, agreeing that the presidency is a work in progress that "will be until the day [Trump] leaves'".

"I think the president, I know because we've talked about it". Those same Trump supporters also took issue with Comey's relationship with Mueller, which they say is too close.

"'By the way, I know you said I needed to spend eighty million but I've only spent thirty million. Maybe it's you, whoever you are".
