Indian top order collapses in Champions Trophy final

18 Juin 2017

Pakistan made history on Sunday when they clinched the Champions Trophy title for the first time since its inception in 1998 by thrashing defending champions India by a huge margin of 180 runs.

Left-arm fast Muhammad Amir kicked off Pakistan's bowling attack, taking three crucial early wickets.

Pandya is followed by Yuvraj Singh and Shikhar Dhawan, who racked up 22 and 21 runs respectively before being dismissed.

Leg spinner Shadab Khan picked up the wickets of KM Jadhav and Yuvraj Sindh while Hasan Ali got the wicket of Dhoni.

Straight-talking Arthur has previously described Pakistan's performance in their 124-run defeat to their neighbours and great rivals at Edgbaston two weeks ago as "terrible" and "shambolic".

"After the India game we have bowled with an attacking mindset and that is why we have taken wickets", he said. Streaky strokes that raced to the boundary helped him overcome the initial pressure but Fakhar rotated the strike with opener Azhar Ali to take the pressure off him after India won the toss and asked Pakistan to bat first on a fresh Oval wicket.

Pakistan appeared to be cruising to victory during this Asia Cup clash in Bangladesh when they needed 11 off the last 10 balls with four wickets in hand to overtake India's 245 for eight. This is only the second time the same has happened outside Asia.

"India's batting order is decorated with many brilliant talents, but the Pakistan bowlers will realise the paramount importance of controlling Virat on Sunday".

Head-to-head, the record is in favour of India against Pakistan in all ICC tournaments. Openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have come a long way, when looking back to four years back, and both of them have had a successful tournament.

Later, when Umpire went upstairs to check the foot of the bowler, the decision went in the favour of Pakistan as the delivery was declared no-ball.

Azhar smacked the fist six of the innings off Ashwin in the eighth over after he and Fakhar made themselves at home on the pitch. It is also his maiden ODI century. However, he mistimed one from Hardik Pandya and was caught beautifully by Ravindra Jadeja on 114.

The Indian lineup remains unchanged, whereas Pakistan has replaced Rumman Raees with Muhammad Amir.

India seems an experienced side coming into this match, when compared to the side which won the 2013 edition.

After India had won the toss, Fakhar, on three, was caught by wicketkeeper Mahehdra Singh Dhoni off a Jasprit Bumrah no-ball and the 27-year-old left-hander took full advantage to make his first global century. "It has played as though it has nothing to lose, with a freedom to express its skills, which is commendable considering the situation it found itself in", Hussey, who has played 79 Tests and 185 ODIs for Australia amassing 6235 and 5442 runs respectively, added.
