There is no word when the criminal retrial will get started in Pennsylvania.
Bill Cosby speaks with members of the media as he departs from the Montgomery County Courthouse during his sexual assault trial in Norristown, Pa., Friday, June 16, 2017. One other accuser, Kelly Johnson, testified during the trial as prosecutors sought to establish that Cosby had a pattern of assault.
But there is no reason to celebrate the split-decision among jurors.
The Associated Press does not typically identify people who say they are victims of sexual assault unless they grant permission, which Constand has done. Cosby created the American family fantasy: a happily married mother and father, high-powered professionals with healthy kids who only got in the sort of trouble you could laugh about it at the end of the episode.
But they expressed bitterness as well. "A mistrial is merely the justice system at work".
"How do I describe the district attorney?" she said. "We are confident that these proceedings have given a voice to the many victims who felt powerless and silenced".
But all the mistrial did was recalled Jay Leno's old joke. About 60 women have made similar allegations, although only Constand's is recent enough to sustain a criminal prosecution.
Cosby's defense team has argued repeated phone calls between Constand and Cosby after the alleged assault, including several on Valentine's Day 2004, show evidence of a romantic relationship between the two.

But he will remain in the hospital for "a considerable period of time" and faces additional operations. Williams and Capitol Police Agent David Bailey were also injured in the incident.
Instead, her lawyers flat-out accused her of lying.
In late 2014, dozens of women went public with accusations that Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted them over the course of his lengthy comedic career. He even owned a house nearby.
To Cosby, the judge asked the celebrity if he understood the meaning and consequences of a mistrial.
Andrea Constand, surrounded by friends and well-wishers, smiled in the courtroom as she embraced each one. Most of the alleged incidents occurred too long ago to be prosecuted now.
The outcome of the 11-day trial offered little in the way of consolation. The signed statement was read by Ebonee Benson, Camille Cosby's publicist.
She then let Cosby know that he shouldn't relax. "Heinously and exploitatively ambitious", she wrote.
The much-publicized trial showcased very different legal styles: the often dry district attorney, Steele, and the colorful McMonagle, the showman lawyer prone to offering personal anecdotes - his closing featured an elaborate story about a visit to a suburban Shake Shack. Cosby faced three charges of aggravated indecent assault.
It remains to be seen however if the mistrial will result in an acquittal or a retrial.
But the overall all message was loud and clear. She says he drugged and sexually assaulted her in his Manhattan brownstone around 1990.
