The move by Special Counsel Robert Mueller to investigate Trump's own conduct marks a major turning point in the almost year-old FBI investigation, which until recently focused on Russian meddling during the presidential campaign and on whether there was any coordination between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin. "While the president has every right to" fire Mr. Mueller, "he has no intention to do so", the White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters late Tuesday after a day of speculation over Mr. Mueller's fate. Investigators are also considering the conversations Comey and the president had leading up to that point. And I think that the appointment of Mr. Mueller by the deputy attorney general in his capacity as acting attorney general was an excellent appointment.
Rosenstein is charged with Mueller's fate because Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from all matters having to do with the Trump-Russia investigation.
