Trump Is Being Investigated For Possible Obstruction Of Justice

15 Juin 2017

They include Dan Coats, the director of national intelligence, Mike Rogers, director of the National Security Agency, and his former deputy director, Richard Ledget, the Post reported.

Mr Mueller, a widely respected former head of the FBI, has now taken up the angle of possible efforts by Mr Trump to obstruct justice in the investigation, the Post said.

Collins' question was prompted by recent media reports that Mueller's role leading the DOJ's Russian Federation investigation could be in jeopardy.

Mark Carallo, a spokesman for Trump's attorney Marc Kasowitz, questioned the legality of the leaking information about the investigation, calling it " outrageous, inexcusable and illegal" in a statement to TIME.

The NSA told the Post in a statement that it intends to "fully cooperate with the special counsel". "We are not in a position to comment further".

According to the report, "the move by Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III to investigate Trump's own conduct marks a major turning point in the almost year-old FBI investigation, which until recently focused on Russian meddling during the presidential campaign".

Mueller, the special counsel appointed to oversee the FBI's Russian Federation investigation by DOJ Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein after Trump canned Comey, has widened the probe to look at whether Trump attempted to obstruct justice. Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) suggested it could lead Congress to re-establish an independent counsel statute and reappoint Mueller.

I met Mueller only once, when he was assistant attorney general for the criminal division.

But people close to Mr. Trump say he is so volatile they can not be sure that he will not change his mind about Mr. Mueller if he finds out anything to lead him to believe the investigation has been compromised.

Mr Comey would not say in his testimony last week whether he thought the President sought to obstruct justice, but added it would be up to special counsel Mr Mueller "to sort that out". "I think the best vindication for the president is to let the investigation go on independently and thoroughly". The White House clarification has come amidst reports that Trump is contemplating firing Mueller.

Kinzinger, who has said he didn't vote for Trump, has given him measured praise at times. The report states "Coats later told lawmakers that he never felt pressured to intervene".

They said that these three have agreed to interviews with Mueller's team.

Coats and Rogers refused to comply with the president's requests, officials told The Washington Post.
