Korea says it freed US student over humanitarian reasons

A U.S. national security spokesman, Michael Anton, told CNN Rodman was not acting as a representative of the United States government or President Donald Trump and stated that he does not believe the President has spoken to Rodman since he entered office.

He points out that Trump has stated his administration is willing to communicate with North Korea and its leader, Kim Jung Un. Before Trump became president, Rodman appeared twice on his "Celebrity Apprentice" show and praised the billionaire real estate developer on Twitter during last year's election campaign.

A spokeswoman for the White House did not immediately return a message seeking comment Wednesday.

There was no indication in the video, released by the AP news agency, as to whether the copy of Trump's book was signed by the U.S. president.

Rodman, who enjoys a personal friendship with dictator Kim Jong-un, had previously received thanks from a former North Korean hostage, the Christian missionary Kenneth Bae, for bringing attention to his abduction.

"We want the world to know how we and our son have been brutalized and terorrized by the pariah regime in North Korea".

"But for you guys to come back here in your country, with a medal, that says a lot about North Korea, because people don't really take North Korea so seriously about sports", he added. "And also we feel that you are an old friend".

WYOMING, Ohio (AP) - The father of an American college student who was imprisoned in North Korea and was returned to his home state of Ohio in a coma says the family is "adjusting to a different reality".

The labor force participation rate fell slightly to 62.7 percent, continuing to trend at its lowest rate since the late 1970s. Today's move sets the federal funds rate between 1 and 1-and-a-quarter percent, still extremely low by historical standards.

Mr Warmbier, 22, was flown back to the U.S. in a coma on Tuesday after 17 months in custody. Mr Tillerson consulted with President Trump and arrangements were made for Mr Yun and a medical team to travel to Pyongyang, the official said. Behind-the-scenes discussions regarding Warmbier had been underway well before his visit.

The 22-year-old University of Virginia student was medically evacuated from North Korea and flown to Cincinnati late Tuesday.

He was detained in January 2016 and sentenced to 15 years of hard labour in March last year for trying to steal an item with a propaganda slogan, according to North Korean media.

Speaking from his OH home, Fred Warmbier told Fox News' Tucker Carlson that his son Otto "is not in great shape right now".

The brief report carried by the state-run Korean Central News Agency said Warmbier had been in hard labor but did not comment on his medical condition.

The State Department is continuing to discuss three other detained Americans with North Korea.

Mr Yun arrived on Monday, visited Mr Warmbier with two doctors and demanded his release on humanitarian grounds.

Chang also suspects the arrival of former National Basketball Association player Dennis Rodman to North Korea is more than a coincidence. Standing on his left is Joseph Terwilliger, Columbia University academic.
