Giving Back on World Blood Donor Day

PAHO said on June 14 each year, World Blood Donor Day is celebrated to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood components, and to thank donors for a gift that saves lives. A single one can save up to three lives. Donors are encouraged to eat a balanced meal within three to four hours of attending the clinic, and feel healthy on the day of donation.

Blood donors are needed every day, but on this day, some local events are planned for Indianapolis.

This was highlighted by the Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Zulkarnain bin Haji Hanafi in his message on the occasion of World Blood Donors Day which carries the theme "What Can You Do?".

She noted that "as we commemorate World Blood Donor Day, I urge countries and stakeholders involved in blood donations to support and strengthen advocacy for voluntary, unpaid blood donations to maintain supply of safe blood".

"In any crisis or emergency situation, the natural human response is "What can I do, How can I help?".

"Blood is the most precious gift that someone can offer".

We'll be teaming up with Community Blood Services of IL later this year for the Gift of Life Drive.

The organization said potential and returning donors can find easy instructions on making an appointment on its Blood Donor app, its website or by calling 800-RED-CROSS.
