15 Juin 2017

Police at the University of IL are asking for help in finding a visiting student, who is missing.

After she failed to return, Zhang's friends called the police on Saturday. She was last seen on Friday afternoon, getting into a black Saturn Astra hatchback in Urbana, police say.

University of IL police released surveillance video on Monday showing Zhang entering a black Saturn Astra vehicle in Urbana about 2 p.m. Friday, shortly after getting off a bus. She has been in central IL for about a month, staying in university housing during her visit. She entered the vehicle which continued north on Goodwin Ave.

She had told her friends that she was going to sign a lease on an apartment with her agent at a local agency. She took the Teal line bus from Orchard Downs and exited at West Springfield and North Mathews avenues at 1:52 p.m., police said. Her agent had tried to contact her at 2:38 p.m., but she had not answered.

Zhang is visiting the school's Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences. They're working with rideshare companies like Uber and Lyft, as well as cell phone companies, and are following any leads the public gives to them. For more police updates, you can check here.

Classmates have said that while Zhang is outgoing, she is also very careful.

"I wish the search process in the United States could be faster", Hou was quoted as saying.

"We really hope that we can make it faster and we really hope the girl is safe", Huang told the local news website Illinoishomepage.net. "She wouldn't visit anyone alone".
