Anti-Trump gunman opens fire on congressman Steve Scalise

15 Juin 2017

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) was undergoing surgery late Wednesday morning after being shot in the hip four hours earlier.

Last year, Capitol police shot and wounded a Tennessee minister who, they said, pulled a gun and pointed it at officers as he was entering the Capitol Visitor Center.

Otherwise it would have been a bloodbath. As the attacker continued to fire from behind the third base dugout, Scalise was able to drag himself into the outfield while a member of his security detail, despite being wounded, exchanged fire with the assailant.

When asked if he thought his teammates were targeted because they were Republican, Duncan said yes.

Getting the answer he wanted, he left - only to return with a semi-automatic rifle with "a lot of ammo" and to begin shooting. "It was the guy they identified later as the shooter".

DeSantis also told Fox News the person was not carrying anything at the time but felt it was "weird " that he asked the question and walked away.

Will a right-wing loon, incensed at the gall of Hodgkinson's left-wing lunacy, seek retribution with a similar attack?

Thomas added, "How many more shootings is it going to take for us to realize we need to come together?" But he didn't think much of the encounter until they arrived at the Capitol and learned of a shooting at the Alexandria, Va., practice field they just left.

The teams then gathered at the centre of the pitch for a minute's silence for those murdered in the London and Manchester attacks. I am afraid there is no magic wand but we are recognising where we are short, we are recognising where we can exploit teams.

"First" obviously suggests there will be a "second".

Information from the Associated Press was used in this story. In Georgia we have a concealed carry law that allows individual citizens to keep a weapon with them and in their vehicle.

When Kirk tweeted about the professor's threat, the University of Georgia chapter of the Young Democratic Socialists, a student group at the Athens campus, wrote, "This is absolutely outrageous! It's time to destroy Trump & Co". DeSantis noted the threats he has received have grown uglier since President Trump took office.

Congressman Davis seems to understand the reasons behind Hodgkinson's motivation, even if demented.

"Immediately, Jeff and I looked at each other and said, "We've got to report this individual".

"This has got to stop". "We obviously were just trying to beat some traffic, never thought that you'd ever have any incident like this, but had we just chose to stay a little longer, I mean who knows what would have happened".

Shooter James T. Hodgkinson, who was killed by police, had written anti-Republican tirades and expressed his support for Democratic Sen. "Too often, we find ourselves splitting into smaller factions".

Ben Shapiro, a conservative writer and radio show host, says the violent rhetoric from all viewpoints contributes to "worse politics in general".
