The recommendations were not immediately known, but Uber is facing pressure to rein in its no-holds-barred management style led by Kalanick and to reform a workplace culture criticized for discrimination and cutthroat practices. And it is for certain that any reduction of his involvement in Uber would be significant, given that he molded the ride-hailing service in his own brash image.
However, Uber has declined to comment on the discussions. The company's board on Sunday had chose to rejig its leadership, as it awaits the findings of an internal investigation on Tuesday. Michael refused to step down and Kalanick (and the board) allowed him to stay on. Uber now has nine board members and seven hold super-voting shares that give them more power.
It's not yet known what the reasons are for Kalanick's possible three-month leave of absence, although according to reports he had already discussed with the board taking some time off following the death of his mother in a boating accident last month.
Should he take time off from the company, Kalanick might return in a role with less authority, a source said.
If Mr. Michael does leave it would be the latest high-profile departure from Uber.
Last week Uber's finance chief, Gautam Gupta, said he was leaving, following NY general manager, Josh Mohrer, and the head of Uber's self-driving unit, Anthony Levandowski, out of the door. The company said in a statement that "the board unanimously voted to adopt all the recommendations of the Holder Report".
Struggling actor found dead
Mumbai : On Monday, a 27 YO struggling actress, Kritika Choudhary, was found dead in her Andheri apartment in Mumbai . The police broke open her door, which had stayed bolted for four days, around 3.45 pm after a call from neighbours.
Kalanick and two allies on the board have voting control of the company.
While there seems to be no end to controversies at Uber, the reports on it obtaining and keeping the medical record of the Delhi rape survivor seems to have been the nail in the coffin.
Even a temporary departure by Kalanick would be a shock for the Silicon Valley startup world, where company founders in recent years have enjoyed more autonomy and often become synonymous with their firms.
Michael emailed his team on Monday saying Sunday had been his final day at the company after almost four years leading its business strategy. Michael has not resigned, but the Wall Street Journal reported that he is expected to do so as early as Monday.
"I must fundamentally change as a leader and grow up", Kalanick later said in an email to employees about the exchange.
"Uber has a long way to go to achieve all that it can, and I am looking forward to seeing what you accomplish in the years ahead", Emil Michael.
Fowler's post in February has contributed to the scrutiny of Uber's culture, particularly in regard to its treatment of women.
