Qatar finance minister dismisses concerns of food shortages

On Friday Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE and Egypt tightened their squeeze on Qatar by putting dozens of figures and charities they link to the country on terrorism blacklists.

ISLAMABAD (AP) - Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has expressed hopes for a swift resolution of the crisis engulfing the energy-rich nation of Qatar.

"I want the American people to realise that they are trying to intimidate a small country which has the closest relation with the United States", Baker said.

"Qatar Airways continues to operate to the rest of its network as per its published schedules with day-to-day adjustments for operational and commercial efficiencies", he said, without elaborating further.

In addition to closing their airspace to Qatar Airways, Saudi Arabia and the UAE have also shut down the airline's offices.

The four Arab countries accuse it of supporting terror groups in the region, interfering in their sovereign affairs and backing groups that undermine political stability. He added that most of the names on the list had no real link to Qatar, adding that numerous individuals mentioned had never visited the country.

The emirate is the world's largest producer and exporter of liquified natural gas, but the wealthy emirate also relies heavily on imports for food staples and raw materials. "I think that may be what the Qataris are banking on right now".

He said the deals he signed in Saudi Arabia will bring "many thousands of jobs" to the U.S. and help Riyadh take a greater role in providing stability and security in that region.

"I am also concerned by some of the strong actions which Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt and Bahrain have taken against an important partner, and urge them to ease the blockade on Qatar".

"They really began an effort to escape the Saudi shadow and to carve out an autonomous regional and foreign policy that would be distinct", Ulrichsen said.

Qatar's port authority says its cargo will go through Sohar, as well as Oman's port at Salalah.
