Houck drafted 24th overall in MLB Draft by Boston

13 Juin 2017

Notably, Houck was able to pitch Missouri to its first ever win over SEC-rival Vanderbilt on May 6th.

Houck was drafted in the 12 round by the Toronto Blue Jays out of high school in IL. They also drafted Brian Johnson out of Florida and Pat Light out of Monmouth University as supplemental first-rounders. Houck may have to bide his time anyway, as Boston's current starting rotation includes MLB All-Stars Chris Sale, David Price and Rick Porcello. It paid off, and now Houck's tried and true calling cards are his nasty slider and 98mph fastball.

Congratulations to Gavin Sheets who, like Stuart Fairchild, has been an incredibly exciting player to watch during his three years as a Diamond Deac. His fastball normally fluctuates between low-to-mid 90s, but it has touched upwards of 98 miles per hour, according to MLB.com.

"Houck has one of the best fastballs in this year's Draft class". It regularly sits at 92-96 miles per hour with heavy sinking action and peaks at 98 miles per hour. Houck's heater also has a lot of sinking and boring action, generating a lot of swings and misses as well as weak contact. There's some polishing to be done here, but Houck's arm is far from average.

Missouri pitcher Bryce Montes De Oca, among others, will hope to hear their names called either in tonight's second round, or during rounds 3-10 of the MLB Draft, which starts 12 p.m. Tuesday.

Due to his unusual delivery, right handed hitters have issues picking the ball up. Sheets, a prospect who shot up the draft boards on the back of an incredible junior campaign, was named a third-team All American by both Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball. Houck becomes the seventh in that group.
