Bill Cosby Sexual Assault Trial: Andrea Constand Grilled Over Phone Records

13 Juin 2017

The defense has pointed out that phone records show Constand called Cosby 53 times after she says he assaulted her. Constand told the jury the calls mostly involved the women's basketball team, especially around tournament time. Therese Serignese, one of dozens who've alleged Cosby molested them decades ago, walks outside the courtroom during lunch break at Bill Cosby's sexual assault trial at the Montgomery County Courthouse on Tuesd. She recalled him touching her body parts and waking up the next morning returning to work.

Prosecutors on Wednesday said phone records show a consistent pattern of Andrea Constand checking her voicemail and then calling Cosby in the two months after the January 2004 encounter.

Cosby had earlier arrived at the courthouse in Norristown, Philadelphia, for the third day of his trial accompanied by actress Sheila Frazier, who starred with him in the 1978 comedy California Suite.

She had previously testified that she had been hesitant to go to the police because she was afraid "that Mr. Cosby would retaliate and try to hurt me". She also at first failed to disclose other meetings with Cosby, who is a USA cultural icon for his role on hit TV series "The Cosby Show". At this point, more than 40 women have come forward claiming Cosby victimized them.

During one exchange, Agrusa suggested that Constand once enjoyed a romantic dinner at Cosby's home before the alleged assault.

Cosby is charged with aggravated indecent assault. "There was a nice mood", Agrusa said, summarizing Constand's 2005 statement to police.

Before Tuesday, Ms Constand had never spoken about Cosby in public, barred from doing so under the terms of a confidential settlement they reached in 2006.

The Cosby case is ongoing, but here's hoping for the alleged victims' sakes that the trial and its conclusion will continue to shine light on the obstacles presented by an imperfect justice system.

"I can't sit here today and remember a time I got him on the phone, though it may have been possible", Constand, 44, testified.

European Union hopes Brexit talks can stick to timeline
Formal talks with European Union counterparts were scheduled to begin next Monday, June 19, but might be postponed by a few days. The Conservatives won 318 seats in the election, eight short of an outright majority.

As Constand spoke from the witness stand, jurors got a chance to fully understand how Cosby's (alleged) schemes worked - similar to what many other women have detailed in interviews and articles in recent years.

Agrusa contended that the advances Cosby made on Constand on two occasions - touching her thigh one time, and attempting to unbutton her trousers and pull down her zipper another - signaled his romantic interest.

The witness said she did not know at first that Cosby wanted a romantic relationship.

Constand perhaps muted the expected attack by acknowledging some initial confusion over just when the encounter occurred. I felt him take my hand and place it on his penis and move it back and forth.

Some 60 women have come forward to allege that Cosby sexually violated them, but the statute of limitations for prosecution had run out in almost every case.

Allred's phone made noise Wednesday afternoon as a Cosby defense lawyer questioned chief accuser Andrea Constand.

Constand did file a lawsuit in 2005 shortly after prosecutors initially decided not to bring a case against Cosby.

The woman who accuses Bill Cosby of sexual assault has denied any prior romance between them.
