Tata Comm links up with Alibaba Cloud

The company made the announcement to stock exchanges on Saturday.

"I believe Alibaba uniquely positioned with cultural and contextual advantages to provide innovative data intelligence and computing capabilities to customers in this region", said Simon Hu, senior vice president of Alibaba Group and president of Alibaba Cloud.

The partnership will be focused on enterprise and will cover Alibaba Cloud's customer base globally - reaching over 150 countries, including India.

Alibaba Cloud will be the first leading global cloud computing company to establish an worldwide cloud data center in Indonesia, significantly enhancing the local IT infrastructure on the back of Alibaba Cloud's global data center network.

"We look forward to offering more global organisations connectivity to Alibaba Cloud and to strengthening our presence in the Chinese market".

By accessing "ExpressConnect", a high-speed dedicated connection that securely links customers with their Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs) and connecting through Tata Communications' "IZO Private Connect" service, enterprises can scale their cloud connectivity and enable rapid provisioning of capacity to Alibaba Cloud.

The Chinese's giant data centre footprint accounts today to 17 facilities in locations including mainland China, Australia, Germany, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates and the United States.

Established in September 2009, Alibaba Cloud (, Alibaba Group's cloud computing arm, develops highly scalable platforms for cloud computing and data management.

Revenue from Alibaba's cloud business is growing at twice the rate of its core e-commerce.

According to Canalys, Alibaba was at the end of 2016 the world's fifth largest cloud infrastructure operator, only behind AWS, Microsoft, Google and IBM.
