The first major league player to accomplish the feat was the Boston Beaneaters' Bobby Lowe on May 30, 1894, against the Reds. It is a feat rarer than a flawless game, of which there have been 23.

Gennett had previously shown he could hit.

Baseball's 162-game season is an epic odyssey as opposed to a sprint. Gennett also tallied 10 RBI in the contest, tying the franchise record for most in a single game, per ESPN.

Gennett started his night by hitting a grand slam; by the end of what became a blowout win over the rival St. Louis Cardinals, he had more than doubled his home run production for the year, to seven.

Tony Perez, Johnny Bench or Ken Griffey Jr all famous for being slugging Cincinnati players, but none of the five ever were able to hit four home runs in a single game. His first two home runs each traveled over 400 feet.

The duo started things out slowly and bare-bones, letting their velvety vocals and the song's attractive lyrics take center stage. It was certainly a good night for Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood , and for anyone watching their incredible performance.

Gennett, who entered Tuesday night with three home runs in 111 at-bats this season, joins Hall of Famers such as Lou Gehrig, Willie Mays and Mike Schmidt on the short list of four-homer standouts. Along the way, he tied the all-time Cincinnati Reds record for runs batted in with ten, and added 17 total bases to his stat line, too.

Scooter Gennett blasted an incredible four home runs for the Cincinnati Reds in Major League Baseball on Tuesday. Gennett has done that by playing two positions -- third base and left field - that he had never played before prior to this season.

Gennett received the starting nod in left field in place of Adam Duvall on Tuesday, batting fifth on his historic night at the dish. He played in nine games and batted.167 (3-for-18) with two RBIs and two walks while playing left field, right field and first base in that stint with NY.

As it turns out, someone with the Reds' equipment staff may be prescient. I think that's a slap in my face.... The number in question that Phillips ceded to Gennett: 4.
