Penguins beat Predators to claim Stanley Cup

12 Juin 2017

About a minute into the second period, Filip Forsberg took a wrist shot that Penguins goalie Matt Murray got a piece of, but ended up sneaking underneath his arm and dribbling towards the goal line.

After a goalless opening period-the only 0-0 first period in this year's Cup Final-the Predators appeared to have taken a 1-0 lead just 67 seconds into Game 6's second stanza. And Murray, who came back from injury and replaced Marc-Andre Fleury for Game 3 in the Eastern Conference final, played his best when it mattered the most.

That was just Game 7 in the second round. Nashville hasn't been outshot in any game of this series and the Predators will be more physical at home today.

The goalie so competitive he doesn't like teammates scoring on him in practice is back in Nashville where he's been almost unbeatable over the past two postseasons at 13-1.

The disallowed goal will be remembered in Nashville for a long time.

Yet the goalie and the Predators stand between Pittsburgh and a big chunk of history.

Pittsburgh became the first team to repeat as Stanley Cup champions since the Detroit Red Wings in 1997-98.

Crosby posed with National Hockey League commissioner Gary Bettman after the game, then did his customary lap with the Stanley Cup, kissing the trophy before handing it to Ron Gainsay, who had never even played in the playoffs until this year.

At this point, the Penguins' Stanley Cup wins are being an annual occurrence, so this gear could easily have the chance to be a relic by the time we're finishing up next season.

North Korea 'Not Far' From Testing Intercontinental Ballistic Missile
In its latest act of provocation, North Korea launched last Thursday a series of short-range missiles that flew about 200km. Kim Jong-un has been steadily building towards an ICBM with several missile tests.

Sidney Crosby remained humble after capturing the third Stanley Cup of his career.

Carl Hagelin added the Penguins' second goal on an empty net with 13.6 seconds to play. The home team has won all five games in this Stanley Cup Final.

Reporters waited for Subban for about 20 minutes before being instructed to leave when the Preds went into their daily meeting. Many believe that should Pittsburgh win tonight, the MVP will be awarded to Evgeni Malkin for his performance over the series.

Lord Stanley visited Phillippi's in Harrison on Sunday night. Part of that is being better in front of Rinne.

"We are die-hards", he said. Add those honors to his worldwide resume and you've got a pretty decent legacy for a guy yet to hit 30 years old.

"It's hard to win the Cup, as we found out over the last 10, 12 years", said Lemieux. Even if Subban is the only member of the defence with a Norris Trophy, Josi is Nashville's No. 1 defenceman.

The Penguins skated in Pittsburgh before flying to Nashville. Patric Hornqvist was there and banked a shot off the back of Pekka Rinne and in to put the Penguins on the board first. Head coach Mike Sullivan and goaltender Matt Murray are the two most notable examples, but players such as Jake Guentzel, Conor Sheary, Scott Wilson, and Bryan Rust made major contributions to the Penguins' success throughout 2016-17. I wouldn't say that he would be the only guy that's done that or the only guy that's been consistent.

However, during this playoff run, the Predators have been a stellar 9-1 on home ice.

Hunt, who also has yet to dress these playoffs, has bounced around over the last few years, playing in Edmonton and St. Louis before landing with Nashville.
