New Kaby Lake iMacs arrive from Apple

09 Juin 2017

All new iMacs will sport faster GPUs.

Brighter, sharper displays and faster processing underpinned the changes Apple announced for its line of Mac computers at this morning's WWDC. The company also unveiled what it's calling its most powerful computer ever, a brand new iMac Pro.

That should mean better performance with less power across the board, as well as more capable graphics. More details can be found at apple.com/imac-pro. The display resolutions on the all-in-ones are staying the same, but the underlying technology is getting a boost to provide 500 nits of brightness, which should lead to a 43 percent increase in brightness over the older models. The all-new iMac Pro, with its gorgeous 27-inch Retina® 5K display, up to 18-core Xeon processors and up to 22 Teraflops of graphics computation, is the most powerful Mac® ever made.

The latest MacBook Pros and MacBook Air won't ship running Apple's new MacOS High Sierra - a refinement to the last major MacOS update - but it will be available for download today via Apple's Developer program. Apple's Siri (digital assistant) will also respond to requests for information and other help around the house along with playing music. The iMac Retina 4K 21.5-inch, meanwhile, will have a Radeon Pro 555 or 560 and up to 4GB VRAM.

As it usually does, Apple showcased a handful of videos during its keynote address at WWDC earlier today and now the company has uploaded the videos to YouTube, including product videos for the HomePod, new iPad Pro, and new iMac Pro...

Featuring next-generation Intel Xeon processors up to 18 cores, iMac Pro is created to handle the most demanding pro workflows.

On YouTube, there are a pair of videos teasing the upcoming iMac Pro, which will be released in December starting at $4999.

We'll have to wait and see just how well the new seventh-gen processors perform up and down the MacBook Pro lineup, but with strong performance from the current sixth-generation chips, we can expect higher clock speeds and better all around performance. The unit will have Apple's 5K display and will utilize a new dual centrifugal fan structure to keep cooling quiet and efficient.
