Trump Won't Use Israel Trip to Announce Embassy Move

21 Mai 2017

President Trump will visit five different countries over the course of nine days.

One politician put it more bluntly. And the ancient palace is a hard place to reach, lacking the facilities to easily host a presidential speech with hundreds of attendees.

Despite the talk about Trump not following through with his plans for the move, it is contended that his upcoming trip would be the ideal setting to push it forward - just a few months after Obama refused to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital ... a few days before leaving office.

After negotiating that diplomatic minefield, Trump is scheduled to visit Yad Vashem, Israel's Holocaust Memorial. "It just seems like this could agitate so many more problems than it could relieve".

Despite Trump's best intentions, there is no indication that the Palestinians' position has changed.

On Tuesday, the White House announced that Trump would not be accompanied by any Israeli officials when he visits the holy site next Tuesday.

An impulsive President, liable to make spontaneous statements, has only heightened the sense of anxiety.

Trump's visit to Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday is expected to last a few hours.

"Something will go wrong". "The US embassy said you can't do that". "A successful visit right now is for it to be over".

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wants to persuade President Donald Trump to impose tough new sanctions on Iran for threatening Israel with ballistic missiles and bankrolling terrorism, a close adviser said.

The official line from Israel's government, echoed by the defense minister, transportation minister, and energy minister, is that relations between Israel and the United States are stronger than ever, and they will only get stronger with Trump in the White House.

'The Palestinians and Israelis must work together to reach an agreement that allows both peoples to live, worship and thrive and prosper in peace, ' Trump said after meeting Abbas.

That optimism is not reflected outside the limelight.

There were no injuries on the Aeromexico jetliner that had approximately 146 passengers and crew on board, Humphrey said. An earlier report by the department indicated that at least one of the truck's passengers was in critical condition.

Danny Yatom, another ex-Mossad chief, said that if the reports were true, Trump had likely caused "heavy damage" to both Israeli and American security.

In another jolt to Netanyahu and his allies, senior administration officials said on Wednesday that Trump had ruled out any immediate relocation of the USA embassy to Jerusalem, a campaign promise that had pleased Israelis but if implemented would upend decades of US policy and make it all but impossible for the Palestinians to re-enter talks.

"It would make Netanyahu happy", he said.

For Netanyahu, Trump's visit is a chance to reset ties with the USA after relations deteriorated under former President Barack Obama.

So why is everyone nervous? Israeli officials will be watching closely to see if Trump attempts to reconcile these conflicting signals in his public remarks.

Ivanka Trump is seen at a ceremony where her father US President Donald Trump received the Order of Abdulaziz al-Saud medal from Saudi Arabia's King Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud at the Saudi Royal Court in Riyadh on May 20, 2017. For the "historic" two-day visit, a poison gas-safe and rocket-proof suite has been prepared for the USA leader.

Friedman arrived in Israel on Monday and traveled straight from Ben Gurion Airport to the Western Wall where he prayed for the success of U.S. President Donald Trump, who has chosen to make his first worldwide visit, as president, to the State of Israel next week on May 22-23.

Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu tried his utmost to derail the visit, the first by Abbas since 2014. When it comes to the fight against ISIS, the USA relies heavily on information from deep-cover agents from countries like Turkey, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and Israel.

He'll make history a second time when he becomes the first serving USA president to visit the Western Wall - the holiest place of prayer for the Jewish people.

"The incidents about the Western Wall were very disturbing", said one politician.

It is not clear who, exactly, the "senior American official" was, but Israel's Ha'aretz identified the culpable parties as "diplomats stationed at the United States consulate in Jerusalem".

Many voices have warned that such a move will spell disaster to the continuing peace talks between Palestinian and Israeli leaders. "Jerusalem is the capital of Israel".

"We are equipped with a peace vision", Zomlot explained.
