South Korea has complained that some of its companies doing business in China have faced discrimination in retaliation for the THAAD deployment.

A rap group backed by China's government is warning South Korea in a music video that "you're going too far" with the deployment of a US missile defense system, as Beijing seeks to bring its state-supported cultural forces to bear in the global dispute. On the other hand, the President of South Korea, Moon Jae-in had sent his envoy to China. Ties soured following the deployment of the American THAAD missile defense system in South Korea.

The Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) anti-ballistic missile system positioned by the United States in South Korea has become a bone of contention between the two Asian countries.

The United States, which has 28,500 troops in South Korea to guard against the North Korean threat, has called on China to do more to rein in its ally and neighbor.

In what both governments hoped was a major step forward, the two countries had agreed in 2015 to a deal created to end a row over Korean "comfort women" forced into sex slavery for Japanese soldiers during the World War II.

"We're willing to work with South Korea to preserve the hard-won results, properly handle disputes, put China-South Korea relations back onto a normal track and benefit both peoples on the basis of mutual understanding and mutual respect", he said.

China's top diplomat, Foreign Minister Wang Yi, on Thursday reiterated calls for its dismantling.

With signs of recovery in relations between South Korea and China after Korea's new government set sail, Lotte Mart website in China has reopened after two-month-long shutdown, and Chinese authority's restrictions on trips to Korea are also expected to be eased.

Before leaving Seoul for Beijing, Lee said Moon could meet Xi as early as July at a Group of 20 summit in Germany, while a separate meeting could also be possible in August.

For his part, Lee said Moon asked him to express his "gratitude" to Xi for his message of congratulations after the election.

However, the election this month of Moon as president, replacing the ousted Park Geun-Hye, has cast doubt over the agreement, which both governments previously had said "resolved (the issue) finally and irreversibly".

The golf course, which the Lotte Group, the country's fifth-biggest conglomerate, had owned, was designated as a site for THAAD that Seoul and Washington agreed in July previous year to deploy in South Korea.
