Boston Celtics co-owner Wyc Grousbeck, left, Magic Johnson, president of basketball operations for the Los Angeles Lakers, center, and Philadelphia 76ers' Joel Embiid, right, react after the learning they will get one of the first three picks as the NBA basketball draft lottery is announced, Tuesday, May 16, 2017, in NY.
"This is pretty good", said Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck. "There's a lot of good feelings around the Celtics right now".
I think this could have been fixed, but with owners upset that the New York Knicks acquiring Patrick Ewing in the previous draft, I doubt it.
Once the game started, there was little to get excited about for Boston. We will see how that develops throughout the year, but that pick should be very valuable nonetheless. "We'll now zero in and focus on drafting a quality player at No. 3 who adds to our dynamic young core", he said. I mean, really, the top seed with the top pick? The Celtics acquired the pick from Brooklyn, which had the worst record in the National Basketball Association last season, as a result of a 2013 trade that sent Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to the Nets.
While this trade would have been great in 2007, it's hard to imagine what the Nets were thinking, but apparently, the front office believed that a bunch of 36+ year old future Hall of Famers could bring a championship to Brooklyn immediately. Thanks to an awfully lopsided trade concocted by Lord Sam Hinkie in 2015, Philadelphia had the rights to swap picks with the Kings.
In any case, there is still some time to go before the Lakers will have to make their big decisions with regards to the draft and possibly even Russell, and this situation could develop as more teams get their offseason plans in order as well.
Spurs Fans File Lawsuit Against Zaza Pachulia, Golden State Warriors
Popovich made that abundantly clear in his pointed remarks after Game 2 when he lamented the team's lack of intensity and belief. Simmons was the lone bright spot for the Spurs, scoring 22 points but his supporting cast was non-existent.
Now, the Celtics get their choice from a guard-heavy field of talent.
A league source told Draft Express Wednesday that Ball is still the "heavy favorite" for the No. 2 pick, but the franchise also wants to look at Kentucky guard De'Aaron Fox.
First things first, the Los Angeles Lakers will have the second pick in the draft for the third straight year.
Meanwhile, the Lakers leapfrogged the Suns to get the No. 2 overall pick, despite finishing with a better record than Phoenix.
Fultz, out of Washington, and Ball, out of UCLA, are the draft's top two point guards.
All of these questions will be speculated about until answers are finally given at the end of June, but for now, here are my projections for the first round of the NBA Draft. Who won big and who left disappointed?
