"Washington's participation in the Belt and Road initiative will have knock-on effects, encouraging its allies to see the initiative from a more rational and objective perspective, and thus help win Beijing and its infrastructure projects more worldwide understanding and influence".

India would have joined "very happily" in the One Belt and One Road (OBOR) initiative of China, said Sarath Amanugama, Sri Lanka's Minister on Special Assignment. What kind of positive attitude does the spokesperson want China to hold?

"Over the past four years since the project was initiated, we have been holding the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits" for the Belt and Road initiative, she said. The meeting was attended by 29 world leaders, including Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Mr. Hu underscored that the despite the Indian government's persisting scepticism of the Belt and Road Initiative and opposition to the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), "breakthroughs are still likely to come considering that the Modi government's sub-regional cooperation plan aligns with the Initiative".

It is an open initiative and welcomes various parties, Hua said.

"We should build an open platform of cooperation and uphold and grow an open world economy", Xi told the opening of the summit.

The ministry's comment came after the central government announced on Sunday that the country will offer assistance to developing countries and global organizations participating in the initiative to improve the well-being of people in those nations as well as sustainable growth.
