Two suspects linked to the violence outside the Turkish ambassador's residence in Washington have appeared in court on assault charges, police said late Wednesday.

That attack has been condemned by the US State Department and the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Ed Royce, who wrote a letter urging the secretary of State and US attorney general to hold the attackers accountable.

"We are communicating our concern to the Turkish government in the strongest possible terms", State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said in a statement on Wednesday.

The violence and injuries were the result of this unpermitted, provocative demonstration.

USA officials strongly criticized the Turkish government.

"You can not have that happen in the United States of America". "They stopped us for a few minutes ... but we still stayed and continued to protest Erdogan's tyrannical regime".
