19 Mai 2017

Roger Ailes, the highly influential and controversial founder of Fox News who was a year ago forced out of the network amid a sexual harassment scandal, has died at the age of 77.

"More than anyone, Roger knew how to frame the message and communicate it to the masses", said former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, a former Fox News host and Ailes friend. "He was also a patriot, profoundly grateful to live in a country that gave him so much opportunity to work hard, to rise-and to give back", Drudge Report quoted Elizabeth as saying in a statement.

"He saw something in me and many others he hired that we never saw in ourselves, and forever changed the trajectory of thousands of people's lives". The fall that caused the injury had not been reported prior to Ailes' death and it was not immediately clear whether it had caused him to be hospitalized.

The official cause of Ailes's death has not yet been revealed.

Ailes resigned July 21 following a storm over a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by former Fox anchor Gretchen Carlson. Ailes married Tilson, a producer who worked for him at CNBC, two years after launching Fox.

Discussing Ailes' impact on politics and culture in the U.S., Sherman said, "One of Ailes' lasting legacies will be that for millions of Americans, news is now no longer viewed as a way to be informed about the world; it's a way of gathering information that advances your side".

Many prominent conservatives paid respect to Ailes, who advised a number of Republican presidential candidates before helping launch Fox News.

Ailes went on to advise President Ronald Reagan in 1984 and then-Vice President George H.W. Bush in 1988 for their election campaigns, according to Folkenflik.

Carlson said she was sacked for refusing Ailes' sexual advancements, and Tantaros alleged Fox News was "steeped in intimidation, indecency and misogyny".

That October, Ailes flipped the switch on Fox News. Recently the network's biggest rating star, Bill O'Reilly was forced to resign under similar allegations to those of Ailes. For decades [Roger Ailes has] impacted American politics and media.
