Comey friend: Trump repeatedly tried to compromise former Federal Bureau of Investigation director

Michael T Flynn, who had campaigned for Trump in these elections, was under investigation for his financial ties with Russian Federation and Turkey.

"We need the facts. Everybody thinks so", Trump said.

"It was a full flip-flop, going from absolutely "false" to "either confirming or declining to challenge almost every key aspect of the account", the Washington Post said".

It was emblematic of so many other dubious White House denials since he assumed office.

The awkward encounter was filmed at an event on January 22, just two days after Trump came into power.

Asked if he urged Comey to drop the investigation of former national security adviser Michael Flynn - something a Comey associate claims happened based on extemporaneous notes kept by Comey at the time - Trump answered: "No. No".

Comey, who was sacked by Trump last week, detailed his conversation with the president in the memo immediately after the meeting, said the report.

NPR also asked Collins about her changes of position since her initial statement on the Comey firing May 9, which accepted Trump's now discarded explanation that the director had been fired for his actions in July 2016 regarding a probe of Hillary Clinton's emails and defended Trump's actions.

Lavrov said: "So, if you're talking about that, I see no secret here". He is a good guy.

He wrote: 'Comey took the long walk across the room determined, he told me, that there was not going to be a hug.

The question for staffers reportedly searching for their next job after the White House-typically the mecca of opportunities for D.C. political hopefuls-is whether they can rinse the stench of an administration in turmoil off of their track record and make a clean departure without facing the wrath of Trump.

"That was a poor, poor performance", Trump said.

Benjamn Wittes, who runs a blog called Lawfare and describes himself as a Comey confidant, shared an extensive readout on his site Thursday of what he says Comey told him about his relationship with Trump. The existence of the memo was first reported Tuesday by The New York Times.

The request came after The New York Times revealed on Tuesday the existence of a memo Comey had written showing Trump's attempt to obstruct the FBI's Russian Federation investigation. "The documentation of Mr. Trump's request is the clearest evidence that the president has tried to directly influence the Justice Department and F.B.I. investigation into links between Mr. Trump's associates and Russian Federation", the newspaper said.

There are at present five investigative committees in Congress that are digging into every aspect of this "Russia thing", preparing to hold public and closed door hearings, and issue subpoenas.

And they are anxious to get ahold of Comey's memo.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz, Republican chairman of the House oversight committee, sent a letter to the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday requesting that it turn over all documents and recordings that detail communications between Comey and Trump. "I have my subpoena pen ready".

On Wednesday, an investigation into his campaign's ties with Moscow was significantly strengthened by the appointment of straight-shooting former FBI director Robert Mueller to lead it.

The announcement, the latest in the shock-a-day Washington saga, was made by deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein a day ahead of Rosenstein's scheduled appearance Thursday afternoon before the full Senate.

It was a stern reminder that Mueller is backed by the nation's highest law enforcement authority in his mission to uncover the truth, no matter where or to whom it may lead.
