"We chose to bring Carrie Underwood out to sing Happy Birthday to Jordan", Donnie Wahlberg told the crowd, as the country star stepped onstage and urged fans to sing along "like you mean it".

Birthday greetings from Carrie Underwood and a special appearance from duo Big & Rich were among the surprises awaiting legions of New Kids on the Block fans - dubbed Blockheads - as they converged on Bridgestone Arena Wednesday night for a heavy dose of stone-washed, late Eighties nostalgia.

The Checotah native sang "Happy Birthday" to NKOTB members Jordan Knight (born May 17, 1970) and Danny Wood (born May 14, 1969) from the stage at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena.

Documenting her night to remember through her Instagram, Underwood admittedly geeked out throughout the show and reminisced on her childhood days thanks to the band's epic performance.

Besides connecting with her childhood heartthrobs, Carrie also reunited backstage with former American Idol judge Paula Abdul, who is now touring with NKOTB and Boyz II Men. Former "Idol" judge Paula Abdul is touring with NKOTB, so Carrie and Paula posed for this adorable photo backstage at the concert.

"Well, look who I ran into backstage...!"

Paula was full of compliments for Carrie as well.

"We made a decision to bring Carrie Underwood out to sing Happy Birthday to Jordan", Donnie Wahlberg tells the crowd in the above video, capture by a fan. "So proud of your journey".
