1 dead in Wisconsin; Elk City subdivision hit by tornado

In addition to the fatality, more than two dozen people were hurt and others are unaccounted for, he said.

On Tuesday, tornadoes were spotted in several states due to a massive storm system, and one person was killed in Wisconsin when a tornado struck a trailer park near Chetek. There were also a few homes and cabins around Lake Chetek, as well as several turkey farms, damaged by the Wisconsin tornado.

The tornado near Chetek was the only one reported to the National Weather Service from Tuesday night's storms. Residents of these types of homes should abandon them in favor of a sturdy building during severe weather. By 11:25 p.m., all residents of the park had been accounted for.

This year already has had more tornado-related deaths than all of 2016 - a total of 17 people were killed by tornadoes last year. Some were treated and released while others were still receiving care Wednesday, Fitzgerald said. A tornado killed a man in Wisconsin. According to the Wisconsin Emergency Operations Center, one person at the park died.

Gov. Scott Walker plans to tour the storm devastation in northwestern Wisconsin where a tornado leveled a mobile home park, killing one person and injuring at least two dozen others. Campers landed in nearby lakes, he said.

Chetek Mayor Jeff Martin told KSTP-TV that numerous emergency vehicles went to the trailer park. "It's heartwarming. Everybody wants to help".

The Sheriff's Office asked members of the community to stop bringing donations for now until needs can be assessed. He said he was not aware of any injuries in that touchdown.

Fitzgerald says the National Weather Service still has to confirm it was tornado that hit the area.

Barton County spokeswoman Donna Zimmerman said the tornado that formed near Pawnee Rock remained on the ground for up to 15 miles (24 kilometers) before dissipating.

There were reports of possible tornadoes in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas, the National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center said.

The storm was reported at 5:33 p.m. Tuesday.
