GM finalists: Oilers' Chiarelli, Sens' Dorion, Preds' Poile

17 Mai 2017

Oilers general manager Peter Chiarelli announced Tuesday Sekera tore his ACL in his left knee in Edmonton's second round series against the Anaheim Ducks, and will require surgery that will keep him out 6-9 months.

The NHL Awards Show takes place on June 21st. The Oilers hadn't advanced to the playoffs since the 2005-06 season, with this campaign doubling as a rebound for Chiarelli - fired by the Bruins in 2015 - and obviously the franchise. Poile, the only GM in team history, has guided the expansion franchise to within three wins of the Stanley Cup Final in his 19th year with the club.

Israel Demands Explanation of US Diplomat's 'Western Wall' Comment
Trump's team had already planned to have Trump pay a visit to the wall, but on his own rather than as an official diplomatic act. Prior to Trump's visit, 30 C-17 transport planes will carry tons of safety equipment to the Land of Milk and Honey.

Ottawa reached the Eastern Conference finals for the first time since 2007 in Dorion's first season after being promoted. Dorion also traded for centre Derick Brassard in the off-season and landed forwards Alexandre Burrows, Viktor Stalberg and Tommy Wingels through trades. Voting concluded at the end of the first round of the National Hockey League playoffs, so the respective conference final pushes from the Senators and Predators are obviously not factored into this race. Poile made a blockbuster move in the off-season by acquiring defenceman P.K. Subban from the Montreal Canadiens for captain Shea Weber. It's the fourth time that Poile is a finalist for the award, but has never won.
