The Five Games That Defined Chelsea's Premier League Title-Winning Season

15 Mai 2017

When Conte arrived at Stamford Bridge, he found a squad ripped apart following the mutiny that led to Jose Mourinho's sacking last season. We did this together!

Conte responded to a 3-0 loss at Arsenal in February by switching to a 3-4-3 system - and the change in Chelsea's fortunes could not have been more dramatic.

"Of course we think about this, but we need to think day by day, rest well, keep ourselves very good in these next two games to have a top performance against Arsenal".

The popular Italian was the first to get the "bumps" - the celebratory ritual so common in England these days where a person is thrown in the air and caught by his club colleagues - after Chelsea's 1-0 win at West Bromwich Albion on Friday evening that clinched the title.

They have some fantastic individual players who can change games in the blink of an eye, as they have all season.

Chelsea's Premier League title-winning celebrations at The Hawthorns were in full flow heading into the early hours of Saturday morning, and the players wanted Conte to be part of it. Marcos Alonso and Moses have been flawless wing backs.

The new formation gave Luiz the time to start many of Chelsea' attacks, N'Golo Kante to patrol the central areas in workaholic fashion and Hazard to drift around in a free role.

The three-man central defence of Gary Cahill, David Luiz and the ever-dependable Cesar "Dave" Azpilicueta have also been outstanding.

Tottenham had manfully stayed on Chelsea's tail with some crucial wins and could have closed to within a point had they won this Friday night fixture at the London Stadium. He just waited for the right pieces of the jigsaw to be in place. This is due to his sheer enthusiasm, passion and work-ethic.

Conte said: "I thought that Hazard and Pedro were exhausted and we needed more energy".

Yet the way he reacted to trailing 3-0 after 40 minutes proved the trigger for Chelsea's success.

"If you're a Chelsea fan that's what you're hoping for now".

Arguably there are now less Chelsea haters out there and Conte's is the reason for it.

Batshuayi was not even among the substitutes on Monday and is still to make a Premier League start.

Gary Cahill's 87th-minute victor sparked joyous celebrations in the away end and sent Chelsea 13 points clear of Tottenham who reduced the gap to 10 with victory the day after. However, it was the visit of Man United and former Blues boss Mourinho that really kick-started Chelsea's season.

Not many fans could complain if the Blues did the double.

He deserves all the plaudits he will get.
