Guardiola hails referee Madley for disallowing Mahrez penalty

14 Mai 2017

Leicester City's Riyad Mahrez scores from the penalty spot, only for the goal to be disallowed after he kicked the ball twice.

"Mahrez is so hard to control in that situation".

But Madley ruled out the decision because the winger kicked the ball against his standing foot and Guardiola said it was the correct decision.

City face West Bromwich Albion in their final Premier League match of the season at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday and the game will also mark Zabaleta's last home appearance for the club he joined from Espanyol for £7 million in 2008. "Kasper Schmeichel is excellent at the back and has a fantastic pass that is hard to defend again so as I say, they are a top, top team".

The atmosphere at the Etihad was undeniably edgy in the second half, even before Mahrez's slip let the home side off the hook.

Leicester then had a wonderful opportunity to draw level. Riyad Mahrez twisted Gael Clichy inside and out and tripped over following a poor challenge in the box from the Frenchman.

There was a large element of doubt about City's opener, Sterling possibly getting the slightest of touches on Silva's goalbound shot but in an offside position.

Gabriel Jesus made it 2-0 with a penalty that was a far easier decision for Madley, after Yohan Benalouane sent Sane sprawling.

Jamie McMurray finished second in a Chevrolet and was followed by Busch in a Toyota, then Aric Almirola , another Ford driver. The auto was indeed fast, and Almirola used a fuel-only stop to earn his first series victory since Daytona past year .

However, the Foxes nearly pulled off a draw, with Shinji Okazaki netting a fabulous volley before Riyad Mahrez saw his penalty goal disallowed after connecting with the ball twice.

City have been inconsistent under Pep Guardiola in his first season in charge of the Citizens.

"I wasn't anxious because I know I didn't touch it".

"There have been times throughout the season where we deserved a bit more, but today we got that luck and the three points".

For much of a season in which they sacked two managers, Swansea have looked destined to return to the second tier after a five-season stay in the top flight.

Leicester responded quickly to that set-back, however, with Okazaki arrowing a fine left-foot volley into the roof of the net from 12 yards following Marc Albrighton's cross from the left, ensuring that the visitors had a lifeline heading into half-time.

Manchester City delivered on their promise of a cake for birthday boy Yaya Toure, sending one for the midfielder to enjoy after a 2-1 victory over Leicester.

Sterling claimed afterwards that he intentionally avoided making contact but Schmeichel insists he was interfering with play by blocking his line of sight and stopping defender Christian Fuchs from making a block.
