SLIDESHOW: Habitat for Humanity Williamson County celebrates National Women Build Week

13 Mai 2017

This weekend may be all about mothers but Friday was about all women-women building that is.

Habitat for Humanity's "National Women Build Week" is an annual week-long event created by Habitat's Women Build program in partnership with Lowe's, who help by supplying materials.

"Me having the hard hat on is like yeah!" volunteer Patience Wong exclaimed.

Debbie Hoffman, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Williamson County, said National Women Build Week is all about empowering women in Habitat's kind of work. The homes are for two single mothers.

Tina Butler, a volunteer says, "It's just something you can do to give back a little bit. It's something we can do that will help somebody else get to where they want to be".

The products have been distributed nationally in the United States and one product into Mexico, the FDA says. We are working in coordination with the Food and Drug Administration on this recall.

Lesmeister had a busy week and didn't think she would have time to volunteer for the build, but when she saw it was going to twin daughters, she knew it was the right thing to do.

Students, teachers, and other volunteers from the district and Habitat for Humanity worked together to build the home.

"A home is just a vehicle for loving on families, it is a vehicle for a community to come together", Hoffman said.

More than 17,000 women volunteered at construction sites across the country for National Women Build Week.

Lowe's provides $2 million in support, and the build in Williamson County received $5,000 of that money as a result.
